New Zealander Ben Oliver is being celebrated – not only for securing a win on stage two of the Tour de Wallonie – but for his Kiwi pose as he crossed the line which is being shared widely on social media.
As Oliver finished the race after a day in wind and rain in Belgium’s Libramont-Chevigny, he displayed a pūkana for the cameras, made more dramatic by the wild weather.
It was also the first European win for his American team, Modern Adventure Pro Cycling.
The team was founded by former American cyclist George Hincapie and his brother Richard earlier this year.
After finishing fourth in stage one, Oliver’s victory and time bonuses has propelled him to the race lead heading into the third stage.
Reacting to his win, the cyclist from Christchurch said: “We were chasing stage wins this week, and to get that on the second stage after a close day yesterday with fourth with George watching before he heads home tomorrow.
“To get done whilst he was here was an awesome way to finish a wet and windy day on the Tour of Wallonie. The boys had my back all day."
“We got the job done – a wicked day for the team.”
Comments online also praised his win and his Kiwi-as reaction at the finish.
"He’s a Kiwi. Looks like he’s doing a haka," one social media follower said.
“Unreal... Ben doing the mahi,” one said.
"Sensational! Well done Ben," read another.
"Those are definitely not thighs from Temu," added another observant poster.
