A security guard has been charged following a "violent assault" outside a bar on Auckland's Karangahape Road overnight.
Emergency services were called to the scene at around 1.38am after witnesses reported seeing a security guard punch someone in the face, knocking them unconsious.
“The guard then allegedly dragged the unconscious male a short distance down the road and left him by a bench,” Senior Sergeant Shaun Richardson said.
The man was woken up by officers, checked by ambulance staff, and taken to hospital with moderate injuries.
The alleged offender was stopped while trying to get into his car.
The 24-year-old was charged with injuring with intent, and will appear in the Auckland District Court on June 10.
“Security staff know they have obligations around their conduct and there is no place for violence in our community,” Richardson said.
“We certainly do not expect this from people who are in jobs intended to keep people safe when out enjoying themselves.”
