A man has been charged over the death of a cyclist in Christchurch following a crash earlier this year.
Emergency services were called to Evans Pass Road in Sumner on February 22 around 5.30pm, following the crash involving a car and a cyclist.
The victim, 60-year-old Dr Ian Huntsman, from Redcliffs, later died in hospital.
He was a highly regarded aeronautical engineer and multisport athlete who previously made headlines for surviving a 100-metre fall on Aoraki/Mt Cook in 2020.
Police said today that a 21-year-old man had been charged with dangerous driving causing death and failing to stop to ascertain injury.
He is due to appear in the Christchurch District Court on June 9.
