One person has been taken to hospital following an incident at a Canterbury high school.
Kaiapoi High school went into lockdown shortly after 2pm, the school said in a statement. An email sent to parents from acting principal Nathan Sandes said it was because of "a student acting violently and erratically on the back field".
"It was deemed necessary to put the school in lockdown to keep our students safe and out of harm's way."
The lockdown was lifted around 3pm "after emergency services were able to assist with a situation", the school said.
"All staff and students are safe [and] fine."
Police said they responded to a "report of disorder" and one person was taken to hospital for assessment.
Sandes said students "responded positively and followed directions of our teachers".
"We are very proud of them for taking this incident seriously."
