Charge laid after man dies at Dunedin robotics factory

A Dunedin robotics company has been charged after the death of a worker last year.

Michael Sherry was killed in a workplace accident at Scott Technology's Dunedin site on April 24.

Heath and safety regulator WorkSafe said it filed a charge against Scott Technology Limited for breaches of the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015.

The maximum penalty was a fine of up to $1.5 million.

Scott Technology confirmed the charge in a statement posted on the NZX.

"Scott Technology Limited has been informed by WorkSafe New Zealand of its intention to commence proceedings in relation to the tragic workplace accident that occurred at its Dunedin site in April 2025," the statement read.

"The company is fully cooperating with WorkSafe and remains committed to the safety and wellbeing of its people. With the WorkSafe process underway and out of respect for the family the Company will not comment further on the details at this time."
