Arrest after crash involving pedestrian and motorbike in Taupō

A man has been arrested following a recent crash in Taupō involving a pedestrian and motorcycle, which prompted a public appeal for information.

The incident saw a motorcyclist and pedestrian collide at a crossing on Taharepa Road on Monday.

The pedestrian was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Police at the time issued a public appeal for the rider to come forward, and now a 22-year-old is set to appear in Taupō District Court today.

He faces charges of driving dangerously causing injury, failing to stop or ascertain injury and driving a motor vehicle in a dangerous manner.

Senior Sergeant Andrew Livingstone urged all drivers to be mindful and aware when driving, and to stop if involved in an incident.

"[We] would like to remind all drivers that they are obligated to stop and remain at the scene of any traffic accident and to take extra care when approaching pedestrian crossings."
