Ticketmaster says it’s caught scalpers – people who buy tickets to resell them at inflated prices – with thousands of illegally obtained tickets to British pop star Harry Styles’ concert.
The scalpers were caught using "multiple accounts and fake identities" to bypass ticket limits to Styles’ 30-night Together, Together residency at Madison Square Garden in New York City, the ticket sales platform’s president Saumil Mehta said today in a statement.
The tickets, which had not been transferred to fans, were cancelled, Mehta said.
Ticketmaster was working with Styles' tour promoters to release the tickets back to fans at the original price.
Mehta added: "It’s important for these tickets to get to real fans."

The original prices set by the tour were between US$50 and $130, including fees.
Scalpers often targeted tickets that were “the lowest price and/or super in-demand so they can flip them for the biggest markup”, Mehta said.
"This impacts many tours and Harry's residency was a huge target."
Anyone who bought tickets directly on Ticketmaster, or had received transferred or resold tickets, were not affected.
Fans could request tickets from 12pm EDT on April 30 to 5pm EDT on May 1. Fans who did not yet have tickets to the New York City shows would be prioritised.
Styles was scheduled to perform at Madison Square Garden with special guest Jamie xx from August 26 to October 31.
