  • Record-breaking torrential rain — 77mm in an hour — has caused flooding in several Wellington suburbs and in parts of the central city in the early hours of this morning.
  • Fire and Emergency NZ has responded to more than 150 weather-related callouts across the capital.
  • Commuters will face "significant disruption", with the Mount Victoria tunnel closed and Metlink warning of cancelled bus and train services.
  • Yesterday, two states of local emergency were declared in the Manawatū-Whanganui region, for the Whanganui District and Ōhura ward after rain triggered flooding, slips, evacuations and state highway closures overnight.
  • A tornado damaged several homes and cut power to 75 properties in Tauranga's Welcome Bay on Sunday.
