Conserve water notice lifted in Titahi Bay after burst pipe fixed

Water has been shut off for houses between 47 and 69 Piko St and all of Mawhare St, Arero Pl and Whanga Cres.

Drinking water has been restored to residents in Wellington's Titahi Bay this afternoon after a water pipe burst earlier today.

Shortly after 10.30am, Wellington Water said crews were responding to the burst drinking water pipe on Piko Street, and the water was turned off for some streets.

Residents in the surrounding areas were also urged to conserve water while repairs were completed.

In an update just before midday, a Wellington Water spokesperson said the water had since been restored.

"Please run a cold tap for a few minutes to clear any air pockets or cloudy water from their pipes before using hot taps, dishwashers and washing machines," the spokesperson said.

"The team will be in the area for a while yet backfilling the excavation and cleaning up the site. The road closure will remain in place while this occurs, and we expect to have it open again before 3pm."

They thanked residents for their "patience and understanding" as the repair was completed.
