A dozen people have been taken to hospital after a reported crash between a car and a minivan near Rotorua last night.
Emergency services, including two helicopters, were called to State Highway 30 near Lake Rotoma shortly after 10pm.
According to RNZ, the crash was between a car and a minivan.
Fire and Emergency said crews from Rotoma, Rotorua, and Kawerau were called to the scene. A volunteer support crew from Rotorua also attended.
St John said six ambulances, two helicopters, one rapid response unit, two road managers, and one major incident support unit responded to the crash.
Twelve people were taken to hospitals across the region.
One person in a critical condition was airlifted to Waikato Hospital, while a second with serious injuries was flown to Tauranga Hospital.
Nine people received moderate injuries. Two were taken to Whakatāne Hospital, while seven were taken to Rotorua Hospital.
A person with minor injuries was also taken to Rotorua Hospital.
Police said the serious crash unit were investigating. The road was shut until around 2am.
