Two climbers overdue from Aoraki Mount Cook

A search is underway for two people overdue from their climb on Aoraki Mount Cook this afternoon.

There are strong winds and rain in the area, Inspector Vicki Walker said.

"Police Search and Rescue, and Department of Conservation Search and Rescue are working together and will search on the mountain as weather conditions allow."

Police did not specify how long the climbers were overdue.

A US climber and their New Zealand guide were killed after falling from a ridge during a summit attempt on the mountain three weeks ago.
