One person has died in a two-vehicle crash that injured four others in the rural Waikato district of Waipā last night.
Emergency services were called to Arapuni Rd in Parawera just before 9pm.
"One person died at the scene, three others sustained serious injuries," a police spokesperson said.
St John said it sent three ambulances, two rapid response units, one operations manager, and one helicopter to the scene.
A spokesperson said five patients were assessed in total, and one patient in a critical condition was airlifted to Waikato Hospital.
Two more people in serious conditions, one in a moderate condition and one in a minor condition were taken to Waikato Hospital by ambulance.
Arapuni Rd was closed overnight near Monckton Rd while a scene examination was carried out, and has since reopened.
