One person has died in a house fire in South Taranaki this morning.
Emergency services were called to the burning property on Derby Street in Eltham just before 5am.
"One person was found deceased at the property," a police spokesperson said.

A scene guard was in place and inquiries to determine the cause of the fire are underway.

A Fire and Emergency spokesperson said crews attended from Hawera, Eltham, Stratford and New Plymouth.
The house was severely damaged and fire investigators would attend the scene to determine the cause of the blaze.
