Suzy Cato: 2025 is the year I wear my 'big girl pants' at work

Suzy Cato

The beloved children's entertainer is looking forward to more cuppas, a bigger team and a grown-up pair of pants.

I’ve not been one for resolutions for a few years – too many hollow words and random goals that fall by the wayside within a few days. But what I am trying this year is to write all my desires and goals and aspirations down, with the idea that I choose one to work with. As that gets settled and embedded into my day, I add in another. Here are a few of them:

I want some big girl pants and a bigger team. My work is a joy – creating content for tamariki and their whānau is so much fun and is so rewarding. But with any career it can be so time consuming. I have got to work smarter, not harder.

This year I’m going to gather a team to help me achieve all the grand plans, events and experiences and I’m excited by that. My tiny team has achieved so much for so long. Now it’s time to put my big girl pants on and really get things flying.

More cuppas and cakes with special people. Having a bigger team will allow me more time, and heart and head space for my incredible extended family and my family of friends. Lordy! I’m crying as I type this. Each year whizzes by full of songs, stories, social media posts and endless applications for funding. I’m adding loads more cuppas and cake and time with those special people who I’ve not seen anywhere near enough of in the last few years.

It's time to prioritse cuppas and cake.

I plan to turn recipe reels into soul food. I’m looking forward to turning those saved recipe reels into slap up meals, too. We eat well, but having kai that feeds the soul as well as the puku is what I’m aiming for. Though I’m not giving up my air fryer anytime soon – I’ve yet to try making those gluten free croissants.

After a health scare this year, Suzy Cato took to social media ] to remind people to stay on top of their health checks. “Go get your WOF done".

I'll be celebrating our corner of the world. Our little country has been through the wringer in so many ways over the last few years. I hope we’re able to remember what makes us so special and unique so we nourish and replenish the whenua. We need to work, live, play, and grow together; celebrating the diversity within our communities and the strengths we all bring.
