The Horowhenua District Council says a "do not drink" water notice issued for Tokomaru yesterday remains in place until at least tomorrow.
Yesterday, tests found elevated levels of lead in the town's drinking water supply and enhanced testing found non-compliant levels of lead in both the reservoir at the Tokomaru water treatment plant and the reticulation network.
In a statement on Thursday afternoon, the council said the "Do Not Drink Water Notice" for the Tokomaru water supply remained in place while more tests were carried out.
"Yesterday’s testing showed lead in a sample taken, was mostly likely due to a brass washdown tap, which was not a part of the water supply network."
The council said it was decided to run 18 separate samples today, to test across the network based on the latest evidence from Thursday's results showing the reservoir and the network were both compliant.
"Five of these, were identified as priority locations for results to be received today. The rest are more comprehensive samples to provide council with robust data, including additional samples at various steps, between process areas in the water treatment plant."
It said the five priority area results were expected "by the end of today" and would update the community on Friday once results were received.
