It was heartbreak for Kiwi trampolinist Dylan Schmidt in the men's Paris Olympics final this morning after he took a big fall off the trampoline and failed to finish his routine.
Schmidt wasn't able to repeat his heroics from three years ago where he secured bronze at the Tokyo games.
The 27-year-old Te Anau native had qualified in an impressive fourth place and was in with a big shout for another medal.
However near the start of his final routine, of which you only get one shot, Schmidt veered off to the edge of the trampoline and couldn't recover.
He continued to twist and turn in the air before being caught by officials on a mat over the edge of the trampoline, taking a hard hit to the floor.
Schmidt bounced right back up though and waved to the crowd cheering him on.
Belarus favourite Ivan Litvinovich easily won gold from his two Chinese rivals with a score of 63.090.
