Police are appealing for the public's help as they investigate a road rage fight in Auckland that left two people injured.

The incident on the North-Western Motorway occurred on Monday at about 6.35pm, police said.

The vehicles, a van and a car, pulled over just before the Royal Rd off-ramp in Massey "following a dispute over driving".

"An altercation occurred between occupants of both vehicles, in which both occupants have assaulted each other," Detective Sergeant Murray Free said in a statement.

"Both people left the scene immediately afterwards, but later presented to hospital with serious, but not life threatening injuries."

Police have identified and spoken to both people.

"Through the course of our enquiries we are aware that several members of the public saw the incident and stopped in the bus lane.

"We need those people to contact us to assist the investigation," Free said.

Anyone with information or dashcam footage was urged to call 105 or file an online report.
