In May 2023, Tall Fern Mary Goulding was critically injured in a car accident just north of Canterbury. Paramedics at the scene didn't think she'd survive her injuries.
She spent 12 days in a coma - before having to learn to eat, walk and talk again.
In November, six months after her accident, Goulding shared her story with 1News in a television exclusive and outlined her ambition to play basketball again.

"I don't see why I couldn't. I'm not sure what level, but I'll work hard and whatever level it is, I just know I'll be so grateful to play again," she said at the time.
Fast forward to February 2024, she's just re-signed with the East Perth Eagles - an Australian NBL 1 team - a significant milestone in the 27-year-old's return to the black singlet.
"I'm just so grateful for the club cause they know I'm not back to where I was, but they're willing to help me hopefully get back there," she said.
In a social media post announcing the signing, her East Perth Eagles team said Goulding has remained strong in her resolve to get back on the court and they're looking forward to getting behind her return to basketball.
Goulding last played for the Eagle army in 2021 where she was the league's leading rebounder. She'll rejoin them across the ditch in a fortnight.
