A Queensland woman had to use a pair of tongs to capture a deadly snake which had wrapped itself around her cat’s neck.
The feline's ordeal was detailed on the woman’s Facebook page, 9News reports, after she found the eastern brown snake up to no good on Wednesday this week.
The woman said she stumbled on Mabel as she was trapped in a full chokehold by the snake.
According to Billabong Sanctuary, the eastern brown snake is considered the second most venomous snake in the world. Its venom can paralyse prey, causing it to suffocate.
Knowing the danger, the woman knew she would have to be careful when saving the cat.
"In an adrenaline-filled haze, I managed to unravel it myself with a pair of kitchen tongs," she said.
She said neither the cat nor the snake were injured.
"It has been 24 hours, and so far, Mabel hasn't shown any symptoms or signs of distress,” the woman said.
She believes the snake has likely scurried back to "the garden or the bushland behind the house."
The woman also revealed her cat suffers from a brain tumour, joking: "I'm starting to think she's immortal.”
"She also tried to escape outside again this morning, so she clearly hasn't learnt any lessons either."
