An Air New Zealand flight travelling to Auckland from Taiwan had to be diverted because of an “unidentified odour” this morning.
Flight NZ78 had to make an emergency stop in Guam at around 2.30am this morning due to an odour that couldn’t be resolved in-flight.
Speaking to Stuff, a passenger on the fight called it “an electrical kind of smell” and said they now have to wait in Guam until tomorrow when they will be booked on another flight.
“We’ve had no details on what is going on,” he said.
In a statement to 1News, Air New Zealand confirmed the flight was diverted because of an "unidentified odour".
Chief operational integrity and safety officer Captain David Morgan said: “Air New Zealand flight NZ78 from Taipei to Auckland diverted to Guam this morning due to an unidentified odour in the aircraft’s cabin, which could not be resolved in-flight.
“Our team are working closely with customers onboard to ensure they are taken care of and are working on options to get them to their destination as quickly as possible.
“We apologise to customers impacted by this diversion and thank them for their patience while we work to get them to their destination.”
According to FlightRadar24 the plane being operated by Air NZ was a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.
