A man has been arrested and charged with murder in relation to the death of David Bridgwater.
David Karl Bridgwater, 38, was found dead with gunshot wounds on Aranui's Carisbrooke St at about 2.28am on Thursday, January 4.
Police confirmed at the time that an "unusual noise" led members of the public to call the police.
In a statement today, Detective Senior Sergeant Colin Baillie confirmed that a 54-year-old man was arrested at a semi-rural property near Timaru this morning.

"This is a significant development in the investigation and our thoughts are with Mr Bridgwater's family – his mother, brother and two young children," Baillie said.
Baillie previously said "items of interest", including a firearm, were being sought as part of the investigation, including in and around Christchurch's Avon River.
The National Police Dive Squad and Specialist Search Group have now concluded their search of sections of the Avon River and nearby areas of interest and are assessing the results.
The 54-year-old appeared in the Christchurch District Court today on the charge of murdering David Bridgewater.
He was remanded in custody until he appears in the Christchurch High Court on February 16.
He was granted interim name suppression until his next appearance .
