A Bluebridge Cook Strait ferry suffered damage after it hit Glasgow Wharf while departing Wellington this morning.

StraitNZ Bluebridge spokesperson Will Dady said the Connemara "nudged" the wharf on departure from Wellington this morning, causing minor damage to the wharf and the ship’s hull above the waterline.

"While the damage to the hull is minor, it is being repaired which means we have had to cancel this morning's sailing from Wellington and the return journey from Picton this afternoon. We hope to return the ship to service tonight." said Dady

Dady said the company is working to reschedule its passengers on other sailings.

Wellington Regional Harbourmaster Grant Nalder said there was a "very small hole above the water line, posing no risk to the ship".
