Iconic television show Top Gear is reportedly set to be scrapped by the BBC after 46 years on screens around the world.

It follows Andrew "Freddie" Flintoff's horrific crash on set last year. The former England cricket captain was left seriously injured.

Filming on the hit series has been halted since then – with the Daily Mail reporting it may never return.

The UK newspaper reports production staff have been told to look for new jobs.

A BBC spokesperson said: "A decision on the timing of future Top Gear shows will be made in due course with BBC Content."

But a show source reportedly said: "The feeling is there is no way it can continue after Freddie's crash.

"There's a feeling it would be in bad taste to continue making such dangerous material.

"It's a tough decision but they know deep down it's the right one as hardcore fans of the show won't want to see a lightweight version."

Automobile enthusiasts will be on tenterhooks awaiting confirmation of the British broadcasting giant's decision.
