One dead after two-vehicle crash in Canterbury's West Melton

One person has died and another is critically injured following a two-vehicle crash in West Melton, Canterbury.

The crash occurred about 11.15pm last night on West Coast Rd.

Police said one person died at the scene and another was taken to Christchurch Hospital in a critical condition.

The road was closed while emergency services and the serious crash unit attended but has since reopened.

Inquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.
