A man has been arrested after a police operation saw part of State Highway 35 closed for a number of hours in Gisborne today.
This afternoon police said the Armed Offenders Squad were looking for a person of interest near Turihaua Beach, Gisborne.
In a statement this evening police said a man wanted over a firearms incident has been taken into custody. There were no reports of any injuries and no one else is being sought over the incident.
Cordons have been lifted and the road is now open.
Earlier in the evening cordons were in place at the intersection of Panikau Rd and Whangara Rd.
