The death of Māori All Black Sean Wainui is being treated as a suspected suicide.
The rugby star, who would have turned 26 on Sunday, was found dead at McLaren Falls park near Tauranga last week.
The coroner's statement comes after Wainui's tangihanga was held in his hometown of Gisborne at the weekend.
In a social media post today, Wainui's wife Paige thanked people for the "overwhelming support, generosity and aroha" in the wake of his death.

She also revealed a tā moko she had done in his honour.
Wainui also played for the Crusaders, Chiefs, Taranaki and Bay of Plenty.
Before the Washington Test kicked off, the USA took a moment to show their respect for the late Chiefs player. (Source: Other)
