Jacinda Ardern says 2019 will be highlighted by her party by the world "deliver".

The Prime Minister was speaking at a Labour retreat in Martinborough today, where MPs gathered to discuss the upcoming year.

The year for Ms Ardern kicked off in Davos where she took the stage at the World Economic Forum next to names like David Attenborough and Prince William, discussing the issues of climate change and mental health.

Ms Ardern also met UK Prime Minister Theresa May in the midst of Brexit, to negotiate a possible free trade agreement.

Now the Prime Minister has the pressure of delivering on election promises.

During today's address in Wairarapa, she reflected on 2018, but says 2019 is the year to deliver and move forward.

"2018 was a huge year for us, getting in as a new Government and setting up a structure for a significant change in direction for New Zealand. Reinvesting in those core services health and education and housing," she said.

“That work has now been set in place, 2019 is the year a lot of delivery will be required of us and is already underway.”

She says there is a list of things in delivery mode, including the child and youth wellbeing strategy and the housing programme across community housing, Housing New Zealand and KiwiBuild.

Cabinet ministers are preparing to discuss the troubled Kiwibuild programme after Housing Minister Phil Twyford admitted it would fall short of its first year target.

“At this moment Kiwibuild will fall 700 homes short of its first year target of 1000 homes,” Mr Twyford said previously.

The Housing Minister says he is disappointed the target won’t be met. (Source: Other)

Ms Ardern said the Government must also deliver on mental health and climate change and the Zero Carbon Act.

The Zero Carbon Act will drive climate change action in New Zealand and will commit New Zealand to zero carbon by 2050 or sooner.

Ms Ardern said it is crucial to deliver this for future generations.

"It's going to be an incredibly critical year.

“I’m incredibly proud of the work we achieved in 2018, but of course there is so much work to be done.”
