Flash flooding causes homes to be evacuated in Hamilton

Ten properties have been evacuated due to flash flooding in Dinsdale, Hamilton this afternoon.

A Fire and Emergency NZ spokesperson told 1 NEWS evacuations took place on the corner of Whatawhata road and Newcastle road around 2:45pm.

The evacuations came after a short, sharp downfall of rain caused flash flooding in the area.

Eight of the evacuees may have to stay out of their homes overnight, while a clean-up takes place.

Civil defence are also assisting.
