Man charged over 2017 serious assault after Police Ten 7 appeal

A  23-year-old man who was wanted over a serious assault in Palmerston North more than a year ago has been arrested and charged.

It follows an appeal on TVNZ2's Police Ten 7 on 30 August this year from which information given to Police by members of the public.

Police say the victim had been walking with a group of friends on Main Street on 12 August, 2017 when he was punched in the head and fell to the ground.

He was in hospital for several days with a serious head injury.

Detective Constable Mike Skates says, "The arrest is thanks to Police Ten 7 and the public who helped provide investigators with the information they needed to solve this crime.

"We are very lucky we have such a good viewer base of New Zealanders who do their bit to help us out."

The man will appear in Levin District Court on Thursday 4 October charged with injuring with reckless disregard.
