Australian golfer Jarrod Lyle dies, aged 36, after battle with cancer - 'Greatest husband and father we could ever have'

August 9, 2018

Australian golfer Jarrod Lyle has died, aged 36.

Earlier this month Lyle made the heartbreaking decision to go into palliative care after fighting a third battle with cancer.

Lyle is survived by his wife Briony and daughters Lusi, 6 and Jemma 2.

In a statement released today, Lyle's wife Briony confirmed her husband's passing.

"It breaks my heart to tell everyone that Jarrod is no longer with us," the statement read.

"He passed away peacefully at 8.20pm last night having spent his final week in Torquay among his family and close friends.

"Lusi, Jemma and I are filled with grief and now must confront our lives without the greatest husband and father we could ever have wished for.

"At the same time, we have been blessed and overwhelmed with the messages and actions of support from around the world and feel comforted that Jarrod was able to happily impact so many people throughout his life. Our humble thanks to you all."

Lyle courageously beat cancer, in 1998 and 2012, and returned to play professional golf.

He made an emotional comeback to the course during the 2013 Australian Masters before trying his luck at using a medical exemption to win his PGA Tour card back in 2015.
