A dangerous stunt on Sydney's northern beaches has sparked outrage after a teenager was filmed risking their life by clinging to the side of a moving bus.
The shocking footage showed a teenager dressed in dark clothing hanging from the exterior of the 199 bus traveling south on Barranjoey Rd at Mona Vale around 6pm on Sunday evening.
Stunned motorists captured the dangerous behaviour as the boy was holding on to an open window, filming himself.
According to 9News, the bus was checked before leaving the depot and did not appear to have any deficiencies, suggesting the teen pulled the window from its fitting.
"What the kids do, they either take out the emergency window or sometimes literally kick the glass out, and then they do these acts," said NSW Transport officer Howard Collins.
Collins warned that the consequences could have been deadly.
"Within a second, he either would have hit something like a tree or a lamppost, or fallen out of the vehicle, and the motorist behind would have had no chance but to run them over," Collins explained.
"I've attended incidents where the kid is lying on the floor with a severe injury, crying out for their mother. We don't want that to happen. You know, you're a big kid until something bad happens, and then you'll spend the rest of your days probably struggling with life," he added.
It wasn't the first time an incident of this nature was recorded in Sydney, with other brazen behaviour filmed on buses just months ago in Sydney's eastern suburbs.
The penalties for these crimes were significant, including a maximum amount of AU$5500 (NZ$6851) for damaging a public passenger vehicle, and AU$550 (NZ$685) for traveling in or on areas of the bus you shouldn't be.
Offenders could also be referred to police.
