Road toll rises at start of holiday period

Four people have died on New Zealand roads since the road toll began at 4pm on Friday. 

Abdul Raheem Fahad Syed is one of the four to be killed on the road.

One person was killed in a single vehicle crash in Northland. 

This morning, a driver was killed after his car hit a tree in Hanmer Springs. 

Another fatality occurred in Hawke's Bay.

It is already the worst year for road fatalities since 2010, with the road toll currently at 372.
