Two-year-old in critical condition after tractor falls down gully in West Coast

A tractor has crashed on the West Coast, seriously injuring a two-year-old child and leaving a man with moderate injuries. 

The child is being transported to Christchurch Hospital in a critical condition, St John told 1 NEWS. 

West Coast Police acting Senior Sergeant Paul Watson told Stuff the tractor had gone over a bank and then down a gully, pinning the two-year-old underneath. 

Police were called to the crash at 9.27am today in Ngahere.

Two ambulances and two helicopters also attended the incident. 

Ambulance staff are still on scene but the child will be airlifted to Christchurch Hospital Emergency Department, while the other patient will be airlifted to Grey District Hospital.
