FOUR! Tim Southee bowls to Lewis and he hits it to wide of mid-off after a slow delivery from Southee, a poor over from Southee as he bowled two wides with the Windies picking up 13 runs in that over.

OUT! Ross Taylor snags a beauty, one-handed at a third slip position, leaping high, and the Windies are falling away here. Opener Evin Lewis still going well on 56 not out. Rovan Powell, in his 15 ODI, is the new man in.
1:05pm: 27 overs, WI 122/4 - Lewis 50*, Holder 2*
FIFTY! That's a half-century for Lewis. Good innings from him so far considering the pressure resting on his shoulders. Needs to keep it going if the West Indies want a chance here.

WICKET! Ferguson strikes! Mohammed had no business playing at that but he has and the inside edge has cost him his wicket. Blazing 142km/h ball comes flying in from outside off, it's not on line to hit the stumps but Mohammed stabs at it anyway. Ball kisses the inside edge before sending the bails flying. Impressive performance so far from the Black Caps but they know the big wicket is Lewis.

WICKET! Astle gets a wicket on debut! As soon as Hetmyer touches it there's "catch it!" yells around the pitch. Ferguson obliges with the simple grab at deep mid off. Nice ball from Astle. That's 100 for the Windies. Looking better now having seemingly recovered from the disaster over early in the innings. Lewis definitely in a rhythm and Hetmyer following him.
12:12pm: 16 overs, WI 68/2 - Lewis 27*, Hetmyer 11*
DRINKS! It's Drinks here in Whangarei and what a start to this ODI. Windies looked like they were getting into a groove with their openers and then Bracewell struck. A lot of the pressure will now ride on Lewis to steer this side.
11:48am: 10.3 overs, WI 41/2 - Lewis 15*, Hetmyer 0*
WICKET! Bracewell gets a second in his first over! Albeit, this one's a bit controversial. It's another good ball that breezes through Hope to Latham and there's a small sound picked up as it goes through. The umpire calls it but the Windies appeal. It goes upstairs and while the hotspot doesn't pick up anything on the bat the snicko does so Hope departs after just two balls. What a start!
11:44am: 10.1 overs, WI 40/1 - Lewis 15*, Hope 0*
WICKET! Welcome back Doug Bracewell! He may not have got that early catch on Gayle but he's edged him here through to Latham for an easy wicket with his very first ball in over a year! It's good length on middle and angles away from Gayle's body. What a return for Bracewell!
11:30am: 7 overs, WI 25/0 - Gayle 15*, Lewis 8*
Gayle finally starting to get things going and he takes 10 from the over. Big six off Southee to long off and he follows it up with a four the next ball. Lewis getting some nice shots in two. He has one four to his name.
11:12am: 3 overs, WI 0/0 - Gayle 0*, Lewis 0*
Another two maiden overs to keep things rolling. Gayle looks like he's trying to get a read on the pitch out there and any confidence he had picked up went out the window when his first played shot was inches from being caught by Bracewell at mid on. Bracewell dived forward but it bounced just short of him.
11:05am: 1 overs, WI 0/0 - Gayle 0*, Lewis 0*
Southee kicks things off with a fine maiden. Boult up now.
11:00am: 0 overs, WI 0/0 - Gayle 0*, Lewis 0*
The anthems are out of the way. The players are on the pitch and Southee will get things going for the Black Caps.
10:55am
We're about five minutes away. The sun has finally come out in Whangarei and it looks like we should get away uninterrupted.

New Zealand has won the toss and elected to bowl.
Injuries have forced changes to the squads this morning. For the Kiwis, George Worker is in for Martin Guptill at the top of the order as he continues his journey back to full health from a hamstring problem. Mitchell Santner is out with a shoulder niggle pathing the way for Todd Astle to get his debut and we already know Doug Bracewell is in meaning Colin de Grandhomme gets the day off. Lockie Ferguson is there as well.
For the West Indies, expect a couple of new faces because Marlon Samuels, Sunil Ambris and Alzarri Joseph are all unavailable due to injury. And of course, there's that guy Chris Gayle to include somewhere in the line up.

PRE-MATCH
The Black Caps are aiming to continue their dominant winning streak over the West Indies as they change format for the today’s first ODI in Whangarei.
One of the local boys, paceman Tim Southee, says he’s hoping to put on a good performance for his region on the friendly Cobham Oval wicket.
"It's nice to come back to a region that love their sport and doesn't get a lot of international sport," he said.
While Southee’s participation in the match is yet to be confirmed, one player who fans will definitely see is returning all-rounder Doug Bracewell, who Kane Williamson announced yesterday would be part of the matchday 11.
"He's going really well, preparing well. It's nice to see him back from injury and he's been going really well for the start of this season so he deserves his opportunity."
Bracewell has only played in two ODIs in the past two years – his over a year ago in October against India in Dharamasala.
But having recovered from a knee injury and putting in strong performances domestically, the all-rounder has been given another chance to shine.
The same can’t be fully said for Southee and Williamson, who will be rested for the rest of the series after the first ODI – a decision the Black Caps skipper still has mixed feelings about.
"Guys are always disappointed," he said.
"It's always hard to watch when you miss a game through anything really but it's a New Zealand Cricket initiative."
