England has called in another Kiwi to coach its Test cricket side, with former Black Caps captain Stephen Fleming expected to be appointed.
It comes after Brendon McCullum was sacked following a series of poor results and off-field incidents. He remains coach of England's white-ball sides.
The Telegraph reported Fleming was the leading candidate to replace McCullum.
If appointed, Fleming would have a say in the appointment of England's new Test captain following Ben Stokes' shock retirement from international cricket in June.
Fleming made 111 Test appearances for New Zealand, scoring over 7000 runs.
As a coach he has spent many years in the Indian Premier League, winning five titles.
McCullum's sacking came after a 4-1 Ashes thumping by Australia and a 2-1 series defeat at home to the Black Caps.
In June, skipper Ben Stokes and Ben Atkinson were dropped from the second test in London against New Zealand after breaking curfew. They were reportedly present during an altercation at a nightclub involving an England security staff member and a professional rugby player.
Accusations of a "drinking culture" emerged in late 2025 when videos were shared showing England players inebriated in Noosa during a mid-Ashes break.
