Former chief executive of Air New Zealand Rob Fyfe has been appointed an independent adviser for the Pike River re-entry.
The Minister Responsible for Pike River Re-entry, Andrew Little, said today Mr Fyfe will provide "cruicial advice" so ensure the quality of information he receives from the Pike River Recovery Agency and to ensure another safeguard for the families of the victims.

"Mr Fyfe's background as former CEO of Air New Zealand means he is well equipped to advise on safety sensitive activities and workplace environments needing best practice risk assessment and management," Mr Little said.
He said Mr Fyfe also had a "real empathy" for those involved.
Mr Fyfe he sent 30 airline personnel to assist the Pike families following the disaster in 2010.
"The members of the Pike River Families Reference Group have expressed their support for this role and the appointee," Mr Little said.
Mr Fyfe will take up the role from January 31 next year, when Te Kāhui Whakamana Rua Te Kau mā Iwa-Pike River Recovery Agency will be formally established.
