A store worker has walked away with only minor injuries after being hit by a vehicle used in an attempt to break into the premises in Auckland overnight.
Officers were called to a store on Levonia Street in Morningside after a group of people armed with tools were reportedly seen attempting to break in.
Auckland City CIB Detective Senior Sergeant Rebecca Kirk said a store worker interrupted the offenders before they could gain entry; however they then jumped in a vehicle and attempted to use that to break in.
"During this attempt, the worker has again intervened and was struck by the front of the vehicle," she said.
"Thankfully they sustained fairly minor injuries, but were obviously shaken up."
Kirk said the alleged offenders subsequently fled the scene in the vehicle prior to police arrival, but it wasn't long before camera operators located it travelling on Great North Road towards St Luke’s.
She says the police dog unit followed the vehicle on Archlynn Rd where it was signalled to stop.
"The vehicle has failed to stop and a pursuit was authorised. A short time later the vehicle turned into Barry Rd where it lost control and collided with a property.
"The occupants attempted to flee on foot but were quickly apprehended by nearby officers," she said.
"This was an incredibly frightening experience for the victim, and we are continuing to make inquiries as we believe others were involved."
A 17-year-old would appear in Auckland Youth Court today charged with aggravated burglary and two counts of unlawfully getting into a motor vehicle.
A 13-year-old would be referred to Youth Aid Services.
Kirk said officers were speaking with three others aged 11-14 and inquiries are continuing.
Anyone with information was urged to contact police on 105.
