Police are appealing to the public for information after both the driver and pedestrian involved in a hit-and-run in Whangārei left the scene.
Whangārei CIB Detective Senior Sergeant Shane Pilmer said a vehicle was seen striking a pedestrian who was walking on the footpath of Ōtaika Rd just before 11pm.
"Both the pedestrian and the driver left prior to police arrival, but the vehicle involved remained at the scene," he said.
Pilmer said officers were yet to find both the victim or the driver, and wanted to ensure the pedestrian's wellbeing.
"We are asking the driver to come forward and assist with our inquiries.
The vehicle involved was a grey Mitsubishi Outlander, registration number HDG380.

A forensic examination of the vehicle — which was not being driven by its registered owner — was being undertaken, Pilmer said.
"Police would like to hear from any witnesses who saw the vehicle in the area prior to the incident, or those with relevant dashcam footage from around the time."
Anyone with information was urged to contact police through 105 online, over the phone or anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
