One dead, three injured in Queenstown crash overnight

Two people are dead following two seperate crashes in Northland last night.

One person has died and three others have been hurt after a car crashed on State Highway 6 near Queenstown early this morning.

The single-vehicle crash happened shortly before 4am on Kingston Rd at Kawarau Falls, between the Peninsula Rd and Boyd Rd intersections.

A police spokesperson said one person died at the scene.

"Two people in the car had serious injuries, one had critical injuries, while one died at the scene," the spokesperson said.

One lane had been open following the crash, however police said the serious crash unit was now in attendance, and the road was expected to close for a time.

Motorists are advised to expect delays and avoid the area if possible.

Fire and Emergency crews from Frankton and Queenstown were called to the crash at 3.54am, which was logged as a motor vehicle crash requiring rescue.
