A body has been found in the Waikato River in Hamilton after a person was suspected of entering the water early this morning.
The man had been reported missing around 1.30am and was suspected to have entered the water near Swarbrick Landing off River Rd, where he left his clothes and cell phone behind, Inspector Scott Miller said.
A search was carried out with assistance from Search and Rescue boats, drones, and a police helicopter.
"The man’s body was located near River Oaks Pl, approximately 3km from where he was first reported missing from," he said.
"Police extend their deepest condolences to the man’s family and loved ones during this very difficult time.
"Police would also like to thank all those involved in the search and the members of public who kept an eye out for items of interest in the area."
The death has been referred to the coroner.
