One person is in custody after another person was seriously injured in the carpark of West Auckland's Lynn Mall.

Emergency services — including police and St John — were called to the area off Great North Rd in New Lynn just after 11am.

Waitematā West Area Commander Inspector Simon Walker said "two parties have had an altercation, with one suffering moderate injuries".

"One person is in custody following an assault in the car park at LynnMall earlier this morning," he said.

Walker confirmed it was an isolated incident, and there was no risk to the wider public.

"Police will be increasing patrols in and around New Lynn today to provide a visible presence in the area."

Hato Hone St John sent one ambulance and one rapid response vehicle to the scene.

"One patient has been assessed by the ambulance crew and was transported to Auckland City Hospital in a serious condition," a St John spokesperson said.

A worker at a nearby restaurant told the Herald she had heard a woman screaming and saw a man bleeding.

By 1pm, the scene was clear aside from an unmarked police car.
