Two people have been seriously injured after an incident aboard a vessel in Lyttelton today.
Canterbury District Command Centre Police Senior Sergeant Hamish Keer-Keer said officers were advised of an incident on a vessel at Lyttleton Port around 11.20am.
St John said it was notified of the incident on Gladstone Quay, Lyttelton shortly before 11am.
Two ambulances, one operations manager and two rapid response vehicles were sent to the scene, and a helicopter which was not required.
"Two patients are currently being transported to Christchurch Hospital: one in a serious condition and one in a moderate condition," a St John spokesperson said.
The Lyttelton Port Company said it involved a vessel berthed at the port and crew members.
"No Lyttelton Port Company staff were involved."
Maritime NZ said in a statement its staff were at the scene, working to establish what happened.
"This information will inform our next regulatory steps."
