Bank apologises after glitch showed KiwiSaver balances as $0

ASB has apologised after a display error caused KiwiSaver and investment balances to show incorrectly in online banking and the mobile app.

A major bank has apologised after a technical fault saw customers' KiwiSaver and investment balances show as $0 in online banking, leaving some fearing they had lost their long-term savings.

The glitch caused ASB KiwiSaver and ASB Investment Fund balances to show incorrectly in online banking and the mobile app.

A customer told 1News the scare left her a "bit worried".

"I thought we had all lost our investments," she said.

"I thought maybe ASB had somehow had its KiwiSaver investment scheme crash in stock market shares and lose all investment, or had been hacked. I'm relieved it'[s back."

The glitch caused ASB KiwiSaver and ASB Investment Fund balances to show incorrectly in online banking and the mobile app.

She said she had also tried the bank's online help the night before, messaging ASB's chatbot Josie about the issue.

"She said she would pass on details to an ASB customer representative, but [I] have not heard any response back yet," the customer said.

ASB said in a statement a "technical issue” had caused ASB KiwiSaver and ASB Investment Fund balances to "display incorrectly" in the online banking and mobile app.

“Customers’ funds were not affected by the display issue," a spokesperson told 1News.

"We apologise to customers for any concern or confusion this issue may have caused."
