CCTV cameras have been installed at Far North at rubbish collection points to catch those illegal dumping.
Designed to identify those dumping rubbish, Te Hiku Local Board member Eddie Bellas said the cameras ensure people who were "letting their communities down" were held accountable.
In June this year, the council said it had increased efforts to stop illegal rubbish dumping by enforcing a fine of up to $400.
Bellas said the cameras have been installed "for deterrence of illegal dumping and the safety and security of our local neighbourhood".
The cameras are currently in place at Whitehills Transfer Station, Herekino Transfer Station, Back River Rd, Otangaroa Rd and Church Rd, with potential to be moved to other locations as needed.
The council encouraged the Far North community to get behind the initiative.
