A stolen car was embedded into a Palmerston North house and abandoned by its injured driver after crashing through a brick fence following a brief police pursuit today.
A police spokesperson said officers saw a car being driven erratically on Amberly Ave, Awapuni shortly before midday and began a pursuit.
The chase was abandoned however, due to the manner of the vehicle being driven.
Police were subsequently called to Strachan Way after receiving reports the car had hit a brick fence and crashed into a property.
Vision from the scene showed a black vehicle smashed through a brick fence and into the side of a house, with its front end caved in and windscreen shattered.
"The driver fled the scene and located by police as they ran away from officers," a spokesperson said.
The driver was injured and was taken to hospital, police added. The vehicle had since been removed from the house.
Police said inquiries determined the car had been stolen the previous day.
Investigations into the circumstances of the incident remained ongoing.
