A man's decision to perform a burnout on a Wellington motorway this morning backfired when it drew the attention of police who pulled him over and allegedly found a weapon, drugs and cash in his car.
The Wainuiomata man's driving first caught the attention of police at around 4.20am on Thursday, when he sped through Newtown before doing a burnout on the off-ramp to State Highway 2 at Ngauranga Gorge, police said.
Officers caught up with him in Alicetown, where he was arrested and his car impounded.
A search of the vehicle allegedly turned up a large knife in the driver's door, along with methamphetamine, Etomidate pods and cash.
Etomidate, a medication used to induce general anaesthesia, has been detected in illicit vapes sold under names like space oil, k-pods, space vapes, or eto.
The 39-year-old is due to appear in the Hutt Valley District Court today, facing charges of resisting arrest, possession for supply, possession of an offensive weapon, driving in a dangerous manner and sustained loss of traction.
