Three helicopters are helping fire crews tackle a vegetation fire spanning more than 100 hectares in Hurunui this afternoon.
Fire and Emergency NZ said they were alerted to the blaze on Karaka Rd around 12.15pm.
Six fire crews were working to contain the fire "although the terrain is currently too difficult to cover by foot", Fire and Emergency said.
"There are currently no dwellings at risk."
