The New Zealand arm of Australasian stationery company Candida is proposed to be wound up after 50 years in operation – potentially impacting 57 positions.
The major supplier of envelopes was founded in Auckland in 1976, according to its website, and employed close to 115 staff at branches across Australia and New Zealand.
In a statement to 1News, director Raymond Goubitz said Candida recently received notice of its warehouse owner’s intention to sell the property where the New Zealand operations were based. The Auckland operations were on Constellation Drive in Mairangi Bay.
"As a result, Candida is considering a proposal to wind up the New Zealand manufacturing branch with effect from or about November," Goubitz said. "This proposal affects our New Zealand company, not our Australian one.
"Many New Zealand businesses are grappling with increasing costs and challenging domestic and international economic headwinds – Candida is no different.
"This is an unsettling time for our team, and our priority is supporting our staff through this period."
Goubitz said the company has begun a formal consultation period with all 57 employees to gather feedback before making any final decisions.
"We are unable to comment further whilst we are in consultation with our team," he said.
