A man's two-day stand-off with police came to an end when he was pulled from a roof after falling asleep, losing his pants in the process.

Footage of the arrest in Salford on Saturday (local time) was shared by Greater Manchester Police following what it described as "two days of disruption".

The man had been wanted on recall to prison.

In the footage, the man could be seen lying on a patio roof in a backyard – seemingly unaware of the tactical police who had erected a ladder next to him.

He springs awake when an officer climbs up and grabs him. The man then appears to lose his pants as he is dragged from his perch.

After crashing to the grass below, the man is piled on by officers in protective gear.

The 37-year-old was arrested on suspicion of causing public nuisance, criminal damage, public order offences, burglary and assaulting two police officers. He was kept in custody.

Two officers sustained minor injuries during the incident. There was also damage to properties.

Detective Chief Inspector Helen Bagnall called the incident "two days of disruption to the local community".

“This was an extensive use of vital policing resources and clearly demonstrates the dangers our officers face on a daily basis in order to protect the people of Greater Manchester.

“I would like to reiterate my thanks to the people of Salford for their patience and understanding whilst emergency service personnel dealt with this incident."
