Prime Minister Christopher Luxon spoke to media from the Beehive following a meeting of Cabinet. Laura Tupou hosted live coverage from 1News.

Luxon has faced a difficult week after speculation surrounding his leadership again took hold, prompting him to call an urgent caucus meeting on Wednesday.

He won a confidence vote of his National MPs for the second time this year, and then sacked minister Chris Penk who was blamed for triggering an attempted leadership challenge. Ministers Erica Stanford and Chris Bishop have said they were not involved.

The week also saw a 1News Verian poll show Luxon and his party, and Labour and its leader Chris Hipkins, continue to record low ratings. Opportunity was the big winner in the poll, recording 8%, which would be enough to return nine MPs if it was repeated in November's election.
